High-quality infrastructure is essential to the safety and growth of our city, I intend on continuing to work to ensure our roads are in prime condition as well as stop-lights and crosswalks are added in order to connect our neighborhoods.
I plan on continuing to work in partnership with our neighboring cities and the Washington Prime Group on the development and improvement of Northtown Mall and the surrounding area. Northtown mall is critical to our city and we must ensure that it remains vibrant and relevant.
I am also looking to develop the Lexington Ave corridor. The surrounding area is rapidly developing housing. I want to continue to recruit businesses for this area, and to be proactive in the relationships between them and Blaine.
Blaine is the fastest growing suburb in the metro area. We lead Anoka county in growth and economic development, with over 65,000 residents to represent. We need to ensure that we are supporting our residents’ diverse needs, as we continue to grow.
In order to support our community, we need to make sure our budget shifts to reflect the priorities of our residents. I will focus on making sure that previously neglected departments have access to the funding they need.
Blaine has a large variety of employment. This diversity requires housing that can support all levels of income. I plan to continue to advocate for the development of all types of housing to ensure our community is strong.
I will continue advocate for 5 and 10-year capital expenditure and improvement plans in all areas in order to make certain that we have a proactive and innovative budget that will account for the growing needs of Blaine.
The well-being of Blaine residents is extremely important. I will ensure that we maintain a top-notch public safety department to keep our community safe. In the past four years we have added 10 sworn officers to the police department and added several fire trucks that were much needed to the Fire Department.
I am continuing to advocate for the placement of signalized lights at some of our most dangerous intersections in Blaine. Additionally, I am lobbying the county to change their unfair assessment policy in which Blaine pays for 75% of the costs to fix these intersections. There should be a 50/50 cost share. Cost should not stop Blaine residents from being safe in their community.
I will also work in partnership with the local school districts to support and increase awareness surrounding mental health. The importance of mental health needs to be emphasized, and I will advocate for this in collaboration with our schools to ensure that our students are getting the resources and support they need
